Stability in IPL from any corner is over-rated and estimated or desired for only by the highly inexorable. Let’s look at its history for a moment. 2008 started off with a bang and Indians hoped for a daily dose of cricket for 2 months on a yearly basis in their own country. But 2009 saw the tournament moved to South Africa due to the general elections in India. IPL was back in India for 2010 and there looked a hope for continuity. While the IPL continued to be staged in India for the next 3 seasons, 2011 saw the introduction of 2 more teams....

It’s that time of the year but it is not really ‘that’ time of the year. Preparations for the T20 World Cup would have been in full swing right now. Instead we have players converging in UAE almost a month before the start of another IPL season. These are crazy times.

When a 23-year old Jason Holder was handed the reigns of West Indies Test Cricket team in 2015, the team had won just 12 out of 50 tests in the since 2010, of which 5 came against Bangladesh, 2 against Zimbabwe, 1 against England (which was ranked 5th at the time), 1 against Pakistan (which was ranked 6th at the time) and 3 against NewZealand (which was ranked 7th and 8th at the time).

Although ODI and T20 cricket may provide its daily dose of drama and entertainment, my heart goes out to Test cricket and its sorcery. A good old match of Test cricket - swing and drama on Day 1, batsmen looking to pile runs on Day 2, bowlers applying themselves on Day 3, spinners unfolding their drama on Days 4 and 5. What better way to kick of the Test Championship with a good old 5-match Ashes series...

An IPL, the General Elections and a ICC Cricket World Cup in the same year, boy talk about being cramped for room in your entertainment appetite. The 12th ICC Cricket World Cup is here and it is the 5th time it is being held in England. Despite arguments that the new format is commercial in nature and doesn’t make the World Cup seem like a “Cup of World Teams”, I’d say that the single round-robin format promises to make the World Cup even more exciting.

It's almost summer in India and we all know what that means! The 12th season of the Indian Premier League is one of its kind - it's the first one to be cramped with the General Elections of India and the ICC Cricket World Cup. While this brings with it a certain set of challenges, the success (or failure) of this edition will be predicated only once the IPL gets going. Cricket in Progress! has taken the liberty to provide you the complete roundup of IPL 2019 and the 8 participating teams so that when the IPL is ready to being, you are, too.

BCCI has become a Frankenstein's monster with Dr. Frankenstein being the game of cricket. It has become the lone stubborn child who has learned to say "no".

With 9 months of hindsight, it’s not only the trio who have had time to introspect. We, as the stakeholders of the game should have had introspected as well. Were we right in behaving the way we did or could we have handled our reactions in a better manner?

Post the ball-tampering saga, Australia has brought on the field what many would call a ‘good-boy’ image. While it would seem like a step in the right direction, one could also ask “Why do something to lower an intensity which brought many accolades?”

IPL 2018 brings with a new sense of excitement and promise. Touted as IPL 2.0, this IPL sees the return of 2 of its favorite teams - CSK and RR. The stage is set for cricketers to show their talent and take the world by storm once again.

In the sport of weightlifting, lifting the weight is the easy part. Holding it in the air for long is the most difficult part. Virat Kohli stands at similar crossroads of his career. Starting now, he has to keep one eye on the present and one eye on the future.

A batsman. A finisher. A wicket-keeper. A friend. A guide. A philosopher. A Reviewer. A Nets Bowler. M S Dhoni brings about with him a sense of rejuvenation. Yet, it is nothing new given his history of achieving what he sets out for. Read more to find out what this multi-talented man means to the Indian outfit.

If you ever want a good challenge in your life, take up the task of finding a more charming batsman than when Rohit Sharma is in full flow. Converting centuries into 150s and converting 150s into double centuries is become his habit now. Srilanka and Australia have been at the receiving end of his onslaught too many times now. And against Srilanka in the 1st ODI in Dharamsala, he showed how important he is to the India limited overs set up for the World Cup.

The laws of the game are always changing and the custodians of the laws – MCC are constantly monitoring the game to see where laws can be made or modified or removed. This year, too, new rules were announced by MCC and implemented by ICC. While some rules are like daemons in operating systems, some rules will be seen almost immediately by viewers. I managed to compile the new rules into 4 categories – Batting, Bowling, Fielding and Playing Conditions.

Once a formidable force, now minnows. Check out why Srilanka fell from the top half of the rankings to the bottom half in all 3 formats. Also, why India could probably never face what Srilanka are.

The ‘World Cup of Champions’ is here, as the top 8 teams battle it out in England yet once again for what could be only be called another tournament. Apparently, the stakes are not as high as the ICC would like, but it is still a tournament. We bring you the complete round up of the 2017 edition.
