Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – IPL 2019

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – IPL 2019

4 min read
Introduction

For the first time in the past few years, I am not happy with the squad SRH have put together. They had several opportunities in the auction to efficiently replace Shikhar Dhawan. Manan Vohra is someone who comes to the mind. Now, the dilemma they face is playing 2 out of Jonny Bairstow, Shakib Al Hasan and David Warner. Trust me, any combination is making the lineup of SRH a bit weaker.

Mihir’s SWOT Analysis

strengths
  1. One of the strengths SRH have is the captaincy of Kane Williamson. His captaincy is versatile, calm and Kane himself can handle anything that is thrown his way.
  2. The overseas stock of SRH is quite impeccable in its variety and balance.
weaknesses
  1. What is apparent enough is the lack of Indian batsmen in SRH.
  2. Manish Pandey in the middle-order, assigned the role of being the anchor, wouldn’t have had the ideal match practice going into the IPL.
opportunities
  1. I would call SRH one of the dark horses this season. They could turn this into an opportunity, fly under the radar and come up with a surprising performance.
  2. David Warner is hungry. He is waiting to be unleashed, which could turn out to be a huge blessing for SRH. If he gets going 3 out of 5 matches, doesn’t matter what the middle-order is.
threats
  1. The lure to play Jonny Bairstow could mean either David Warner or Shakib Al-Hasan sitting out. If Bairstow does perform, he ends up playing more matches, which means when he leaves the squad midway, his replacement wouldn’t have had much match practice. Bairstow’s price tag gives rise to speculation that he isn’t really the first choice player, but we never know.
key player
Kane Williamson —> The only captain that I have selected as the Key Player. Such is the importance of this individual in SRH, more so after what has happened with Warner over the past year. Kane Williamson is going to be instrumental to SRH’s fate both, as a batsman and as a captain.
prediction
I don’t keep much hopes from SRH this year. They did have a good season last year and they also retain much of the combination, but I got a feeling that this won’t be SRH’s year.
Roster
Samrat’s SWOT Analysis
IPL 2019 SRH Samrat SWOT
strengths
  1. The team will be boosted by the return of their star campaigner David Warner. He, along with Martin Guptill or Johny Bairstow might open the batting.
  2. The team has retained its core bowling unit, which was in top form in the last season. That department includes the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Siddharth Kaul and Khaleel Ahmed in fast bowling and Mohammed Nabi and Rashid Khan in the spin bowling. All these players were responsible for SRH getting into final last season and are in fabulous form again.
  3. Not to be left behind, the batting will have the likes of David Warner and Kane Williamson. Kane was the orange cap holder in the previous season.
weaknesses
  1. The middle-order batting looks fragile, with Yusuf Pathan and Manish Pandey and Wriddhiman Saha struggling in the middle order to get their form for the past few months.
  2. They have a lot of foreign batsmen, but there are no reserves for them. In their absence, it will be interesting to see who will lead the batting department.
opportunities
  1. David Warner has greater need and has a stage to make a comeback.
threats
  1. Weakest batting unit in the tournament, more so with the absence of Shikhar Dhawan.
key player
David Warner —> Will be one of the top guns for the team in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan.
prediction
No, Sunrisers Won’t make it to the playoffs.
